INDIA , musically rich in its culture is known worldwide for
its singing legends and instrument players. Indian classical is the toughest art
of music and is extremely difficult to perfect.
Different states of India have their own folk songs and have a very
different culture than their fellow states.
Over the years, we can boast of producing various music legends of India like Pt.Ravi Shankar, Bismillah
Khan, Bhimsen Joshi, Zakir
Hussain, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle,
Kishore Kumar, R.D.Burman and Mohd.Rafi to name a few
Pundit Ravi Shankar, the late
legendary sitar maestro was given tribute by the top organizers of music
awards,when he was presented with two lifetime achievement Grammy awards.
Pt.Ravi Shankar received the award posthumous ,60 days after his death on 13 th
Feb 2013 at the 55th Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles.
The richness of Indian music goes back to the ancient and medieval period of history where some of the music greats like Tansen and Amir Khusro etc gave a new shape to music. It is believed that when Tansen used to sing it would start to rain. If one has to give the names of Indian legends, he cannot be ignored in that list. During ancient and medieval times the kings used to give utter importance to music and they used to enjoy it thoroughly. Since then music has taken a central seat in the field of art.

The sitar maestro, who popularized Indian classical music
in the West and had a major influence on The Beatles’ George Harrison and
Yehudi Menuhin, died at the age of 92 after undergoing heart-valve replacement
surgery at the Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, California. With a
performance career spanning more than 80 years, he has influenced a variety of
musicians, including the Beatles, John Coltrane, Philip Glass and his
daughters, Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar

Mangeshkar, popularly known as the “ Nightingale of India” is one of the most
prominent female singers that India has
produced till date. Even today in her late 80’s she continues to sing like she
used to sing during her younger days. Her sister Asha Bhonsle is also a very versatile singer
of India. She holds the world record of
